WORKSHOP

The Clarinet Lab, located in Riga, Latvia, is a world-renowned boutique workshop specializing in the repair, restoration, and acoustic optimization of woodwind instruments—specifically clarinets and flutes.

The Founder: Bernd Schille

The workshop was founded by Bernd Schille, a Master Instrument Maker trained in Germany. Before settling in Riga in 2015, Schille gained extensive international experience working in Switzerland, the USA, Canada, and Japan. He is highly regarded for his precision and his ability to bridge traditional craftsmanship with modern acoustic science.

Core Specializations

The Clarinet Lab is not a general music store; it is a high-end technical atelier. Their services include:

  • Acoustic Overhauls: They don't just "fix" instruments; they optimize them for professional soloists and orchestral musicians worldwide.

  • Signati Pads: One of their most famous innovations. These are custom-engineered pads designed to improve resonance, provide a more stable seal, and enhance the overall tonal quality of the instrument.

  • Mechanical Customization: Tailoring the "feel" and ergonomics of the keywork to a specific player’s hands.

International Reputation

Despite its location in the Baltics, the "Lab" operates on a global scale.

  • Global Shipping: A large portion of their clientele is international. They have streamlined processes for musicians to ship instruments from the US, Asia, and across Europe.

  • Professional Clientele: Many principal players from major symphony orchestras trust them with their professional setups.
